Looking out over the wetland

Pon Ponyu has 15 guest rooms of three types,
all equipped with large windows offering expansive views
of the surrounding wilds and Lake Shirarutoro.
The silence is interrupted only by birdsong
and the rustling of leaves in the wind.
The floors and furniture are made from oak grown in Shibecha,
and the hotel’s interior is decorated with artworks depicting the landscape
and the flora and fauna of the marsh,
so you will hopefully feel the pulse of nature wherever you are.

TYPE A

These are Western-style rooms with flooring and furniture all made from oak grown in Shibecha. Innovative use of legacy pillars gives visitors the sense of sleeping peacefully between rows of trees out in the wild.

While compact, these rooms have been designed for comfort, with everything you need where you would expect it to be. They would be ideal for a solo workation or as a private getaway for a loving couple or old friends.

TYPE S

These are two particularly spacious rooms offering panoramic views of the nature outside. One of the Type S rooms feels almost directly connected to the marshland, with a living space and private bath alongside the windows. The other Type S room features a dining area somewhat separate from the bedroom area, and beds positioned near the large windows. Both rooms are hybrid Japanese-Western-style rooms with a tatami mat section.

Kushiro Shitsugen Art Pieces

From the entrance walls to places such as the communal bathroom and individual guest rooms, there are art pieces with detailed illustrations and text commentaries introducing some of the nature to be found in and around the marshland. The nine art pieces include illustrations featuring the marshland plant life, the Kushiro River and other waters in its river basin, the surrounding ecology, and natural phenomena that can be seen in the area. Take a look before exploring the marsh, and then another look when you return.
